Hmm... was rather shocked to find myself humming some Dave Mathews Band song on the way to work today!! Too much Star 94 methinks... from now on its gonna be pure delta blues and old school jazz for the next two months atleast... till my brain in completely cleaned of all pop music junk...

By the way.. for those who didnt know... Woody Allen plays lead clarinet in the (surprise surprise) Woody Allen and his New Orleans Jazz Band . I am listening to a CD of theirs called Wld Man Blues. Typical New Orleans style half-ragtime-half-blues kinda thing...very cool stuff....

Its friday afternoon and here I am once again staring at the gaping abyss of another weekend with nothing interesting lined up.... was convinced to go see Baba starring Rajni but am seriously worried that I'm gonna have to leave in the middle of the movie... the fact the I will be there with v-man and not some chick doesnt help either....
After that I will go to RK's housewarming party which I dont look forward to at all... except perhaps the free booze... maybe if i down 3 or 4 beers really quick... i wont notice the kinda company i will be in... Its times like these that might drive a weaker man to that haloed institution back home called Arranged Marriage(aka anti-suicide remedies of the socially challenged)....:)...

Went to the incoming graduate class luncheon thingy at the courtyard of the ISYE buiding... another disappointing year in the hottness index as far as the womenfolk go:).... ah but that is one of the occupational hazards of being in the grad program in a theoretically oriented OR school... oh well.. atleast the pizza was good...

Met some pretty smart kids from Harvard Math though.... Nothing but the best at ISYE i guess:)...*someone gotta blow my trumpet... if no one else will oblige, then i have no choice*

Remember some of my friends are back in theie respective homes visiting their parents..... It seems that in a spirit of sharing information, all my other friends are intent on letting the proverbial cat out of the bag.... its kinda like playing poker when you are forced to show your hand to all the other players.... :)... Everybody loses:)
Had a turkey bagguette sandwich thingy for lunch again... Seems to me that they have finally given up on the yellow "american" cheese at the food court ... The swiss or the pepperjack is just so much better in that baguette than the american crap.... Sneer at me if you will...but i am a cheese snob... and i'm proud of it...

Hey i guess this is old news but some really smart people in IIT Kanpur showed that the Primality Testing problem is in the complexity class P. Math World (this awesome site that has all sorts of math reference stuff in it) has a nice little piece on the Primality Testing Problem
George is this cool dude i met at my guitar class at Gatech. The man is a walking R.D.Burman(and hindi film music) encyclopedia, not to mention a film buff and a significantly better guitar player than I am. As his blogging protege', its my duty to provide link to his blogspot... so check it out... lots of interesting stuff there...

Have been re-reading Asimov's Foundation series recently. I wonder if anyone else thought, with all the mind-reading and emotion-altering going on, Asimov himself got a little confused and fudged some of the details:). Dont blame him though. Even with all its faults, its clearly one of the best science fiction pieces ever to be written. To me good science fiction is something that takes an interesting scientific theory and extrapolates the theory out to an extreme, albeit in a seemingly consistent way, i.e. the errors in the logic are not immediately apparent. Methinks Asimov had a special gift in this regard. Some of his short stories come to mind as excellent examples. "The ultimate answer"(or was it the ultimate question) in which man invents a computer to ask it the meaning of life...the computer invents another computer to work on it... and so on... till in the end of the sequence, the computer finds the answer and says "Let there be light":)....Very cool stuff... "The Billiard Ball" is another one that I love.... I guess Asimov's books just call out to th primeval nerd hiding inside my brain...:)

Saw some weird leftist article on Sulekha today called Critical Mass . Something accusing the reader of not doing enough for the poor people in India. Methinks the whole idea is complete horse manure. All these people who talk of redistrbuting wealth do not see the big picture. You cant give wealth to the poor without taking away wealth from somewhere else. Is there an absolute scale for when a person has sufficient wealth? So as soon as he gets more, he should give it away to the have-nots?. I think not. My thoughts arent organized on this subject and I have more to say about the NGO's that collect money to fund the sangh parivar's activities... but thats for later...

Clearly not too much happens in my life:)... not even enough for a blog a day. Saw two movies over the weekend. "xXx" and "Bourne Identity". What can I say about xXx.... I've seen school plays that had better actors in it. And what is Sam Jackson doing in a movie like this anyways.... jeez...

"Bourne Identity wasnt too much better either. Was way too long.. not enough juice in the story to warrant such a long movie...anyways.. used free tickets for both movies ... so its all good.
